The fortress town of San Gimignano is a 30 minute drive. This beautiful Tuscan hill town has 14 medieval towers still standing dating back to the 13th century. This city is best known as an intact gem of the Tuscan area.
The sacred city of Assisi is only 90 minutes away. Best known for St. Francis, Assisi is a quaint hill town and religious retreat for many pilgrimages.
The beautiful landscapes of Le Crete, and the fortress overlook at Montlacino are nearby. On the way, a visit to the picturesque town of Buonconvento is a must. On the road entering the famous Brunello wine region of Montalcino, you will also find the vineyard of Il Paradiso di Frassina. Here, classic wine-making and classical music blend to create a fascinating sensory experience. The ripening grapes -- surrounded by speakers -- are constantly played the music of Vivaldi, Mozart and Bach. In an experiment being conducted with the University of Florence, Paradiso is setting out to prove that grapes grown in this way are truly special.
Finally, the coastal town of Viarreggio, and the quintessentially Italian Leaning Tower in Pisa are also within easy reach.
